SME Bank convened a Strategy Day Meeting 2026

Phnom Penh, September 7, 2026 – SME Bank convened its “Strategy Day 2026” meeting, presided over by H.E. Dr. Phan Phalla, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the Board of Directors. The meeting was attended by Board members, Chief Executive Officer, Management and approximately 50 relevant staff members.

The meeting was convened to review and assess work performance and business outcomes during the first half of 2026, while also establishing strategic directions as a foundation for preparing the 2027 business plan. The plan aims to reinforce alignment with the Royal Government’s policy framework, support economic growth and job creation, and address the practical needs of SMEs in Cambodia —particularly in improving access to financing and essential related services.

In addition, the meeting highlighted the innovative “Beyond Financing” initiative, designed to broaden the bank’s service offerings beyond traditional financial products. This initiative focuses on developing solutions and providing technical support to enhance SME competitiveness, thereby fostering strong and sustainable growth for these enterprises, which serve as the backbone of Cambodia’s economy.

The Cambodian financial market is developing rapidly and approaching the saturation stage. However, most commercial banks and MFIs are introducing both cash-flow and collateral-based lending. In general, they required real-estate property such as land and/or building to be served as collateral. According to the feedback from the market, some small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are not able to get loans from banks or MFIs due to collateral requirements.
