Phnom Penh, May 19, 2026 – At the Head Office of SME Bank, H.E. SON Senghout, Chairman of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and Member of the Board of Directors, presided over the opening ceremony of the first under the second phase of the Memorandum of Cooperation on technical cooperation in SME Finance. This seminar is one of four sets of training seminars supported by the Japanese side, covering credit analysis and credit risk management.
The seminar was organized by SME Bank in collaboration with the Policy Research Institute (PRI) of the Ministry of Finance of Japan and the Micro Business and Individual Unit of the Japan Finance Corporation (JFC–Micro), which is focused on the topics of “Cash Flow Analysis, Capital Investment Effects and Credit Scoring Model”. Its objective is to enhance capacity and methodologies in prudent credit assessment and effective risk management within the banking sector, thereby strengthening operations and supporting the sustainable growth of small and medium enterprises in Cambodia.
In his opening remarks at the seminar, H.E SON Senghuot highlighted that past cooperation has made and continues to make significant contributions to strengthening institutional capacity and professional credit management at SME Bank, particularly in the areas of SME credit analysis, risk management, and the implementation of highly effective and targeted lending practices. He noted that during the first phase of technical cooperation, four seminars were organized in Phnom Penh and one in Japan, providing staff, senior management, and members of the Board of Directors with valuable experiences derived from practical applications of credit evaluation and lending processes for small and medium enterprises in Japan.
In this important context, H.E also expressed his deep gratitude to the Policy Research Institute of the Ministry of Finance of Japan and the Micro Business and Individual Unit of the Japan Finance Corporation (PRI & JFC-Micro) for their cooperation and long-term partnership in this significant initiative.
The seminar, held from May 19 to 20, 2026, was attended by 40 participants, including senior management, branch managers, and staff members of SME Bank.
